How To Tell When A Starfruit Is Ripe

The flesh should still be quite firm to the touch. You can also buy star fruit when it's green and wait for it to ripen - just leave it on your counter for a few days. If the starfruit is over-ripe, the fruit turns completely yellow and starts to have brown spots all over.

How To Cut A Starfruit

Step 1

Choose a starfruit that is ripe and ready to eat.
The fruit should be firm and yellow and may have slightly browned edges.

Step 2

Rinse the starfruit under cool water and dry with a paper towel.
Place the starfruit horizontally on the cutting board.

Step 3

Using a sharp knife, cut off both of the ends and discard them.

Step 4

Slice the remaining fruit across with its width into your desired pieces.
The sliced fruit will be in the shape of the star.

Remove any seeds from the star fruit, either using a knife or by pushing them out with your fingers.

Step 6

If desired, remove the fruit's waxy skin by placing the tip of the knife between the peel and fruit.
