This is a fractal known as the Mandlebot set it can be represented by the function scroll to zoom in on the set

It was named after the late Benoit Mandelbrot

Mandelbrot did not discover the set but he was the first to render a visualization of it using computers he had access to at his work place IBM

Mandelbrot coined the term fractal after the latin word fractus. Fractal geomentry describes the natural world and is a mathematical representation of the patterns described in chaos theory.

He developed the theory of roughness and set out to create mathematical formulas that represent the roughness of the natural world such as coastlines and mountains

Design by Benjamin rodriguez. Thank you for your patience with my low res images, fractal zooming can be resource demanding. Here is where I got my screenshots. Here is where I got the information about Mandelbrot.
