Deep Water
by Vanessa Rhodes

As I drown in the darkness
Moving toward what I think is the surface
Currents push me to and fro

Forced to stray from the course
I struggle to keep the pressure from crushing my skull
Violence is all around

Something is tearing my flesh
I become weaker than a moment ago
Losing momentum

After an eternity without air
I hit the bottom
In a frozen world of time

Staring up above with blurring vision
An ethereal light can be seen

Toward the phantom
I reach a frail hand
