The Avenger's was first formed back in 2012 by a number of iconic superheroes. Here is how it happens.
It all starts, in 2008, with Iron Man. A Genius, Billionare, Playboy, Philanthropist, wanted to stop making weapons so they don't fall into the right hands but he still wanted to save people so he created the Iron Man.
Bruce Banner, a man who has been exposed to gamma radiation and, instead of it killing him, it bonds with Dr. Banner to make him turn into the beast we all know as The Incredible Hulk. So from now on if Dr. Banners heart rate increases up to a certain beats per minute ratio, the (not so) jolly green giant comes out and reeks havoc onto his enemies.
Thor, the son of Odin and Frigga and brother of Loki. Forsaken by his father for disobeying him, Odin strips Thor of his powers by taking away his hammer and sending them to Earth where Thor meets Jane Foster to help him get his powers back.
Steve Rogers, a man who wanted nothing more than to go to war and fight for his country but with the many health issues like Scarlet fever, high blood pressure, heart trouble, and frequent colds but thanks to an experiment he became more then a man but less than a god. He became Captain America.
When you bring these very iconic characters together you get one of the most iconic teams in history, The Avengers. With the help of Clint Barton aka Hawkeye and Natasha Romanova aka Black Widow the Avengers were able to defeat Loki, Thors brother, from total domination of Earth.
Ever since the formation of the Avenger's back in 2012, they have been joined by others to help any new threat that comes such as Quicksilver and Scarlett Witch and The Vision.
By that time, a new threat emerged from the darkness; Ultron, a Supercomputer, AI-controlled robot who believes that the only path to peach is the extinction of the human race so The Avengers has to come together once again to help defeat the murderbot.
After the fall of Ultron the Avenger's, once again, gain some new iconic allies such as the world-class surgen and great sorcerer Dr. Strange, as well as 15-year-old, geeky, Peter Parker who met Tony Stark through a video of what Peter Parker can do as Spider-Man.
The King and Protector of Wakanda, and the wielder of the Black Panther name. He finds the The Avengers via miss-communication by an unknown enemy but after finding out that he has been lied to he helps the Avengers in any way possible.
Perhaps one of the biggest enemies in the Marvel Universe makes his way one the screen as the biggest threat in Marvel history. Thanos, The Mad Titan finds out the Infinity Stones' power and plans on using it for himself, so The Avengers, with their new, powerful, allies have to come together ones more to try and take down this mad titan by any means necessary.
