Today, the U.S. operates more foreign military bases than any other country on the planet. The U.S. also spends more on their military than the next eight nations combined. A large part of this money goes to keeping these military bases up-and-running.
Many citizens of the United States are unaware of the massive global force that the U.S. military encapsulates. Thousands upon thousands of U.S. soldiers are stationed abroad, all in the name of bringing peace and order to the world.
But when many of the nations where U.S. soldiers are stationed are allies and functioning democracies themselves, it begs the question – is this a good use of taxpayer dollars? Countries such as Germany and Japan each have over 50,000 troops stationed in their borders at any time.
This is costing American taxpayers dearly. U.S. taxpayers collectively pay 100 billion dollars in taxes simply keeping these bases operational, not to mention the costs for the construction of bases in new territories strategic to the United States. These same taxpayers pay an additional 10-40 thousand dollars more per soldier stationed abroad.
The U.S. also spends more money on its military than the next 7 nations combined, a whopping $610 billion dollars. That’s more funding than any other federal agency receives, including many that desperately require funding, such as the Department of Education.
This is an issue not many American citizens are aware of, which is why I chose it as my topic. I hope this website will be an enlightening experience to all who visit it.
