TransPoeticaWorks by Stephanie Strickland
Hosted by the CMDC program, and directed by Dene Grigar, the Nouspace Gallery invites guests to attend the launch party of TransPoetica, a gallery exhibition entirely dedicated to the printed and digital works by author and poet, Stephanie Strickland on February 25, 2014. Stephanie Strickland‘s poetry transcends the preconceived notions established by traditional poetry, fluidly moving from printed word to digital media until digital code and poetry become one and the same. TransPoetica will guide visitors through a retrospection of Stephanie Strickland’s poetry, exploring the significance of her work as a multimodal collection, and how her experimentation with digital media posits technology as the zenith of which entirely new forms of poetic expression and creation become possible. Visitors will find themselves grappling with what is poetry as they are presented with poems that cannot be read in just one medium, and lyrics contrived as a result of mathematical equations rather than linguisitical syntax.
The launch party for TransPoetica will open its doors at 6:00pm at the Nouspace Gallery space, located inside North Bank Gallery. Guests are welcomed to explore the many exhibits, and ask CMDC students questions about specific pieces of Strickland’s work. There will be wine and appetizers available at Nouspace Gallery, as well as live music. Appetizers will include vegetarian options, and wine will be supplied by Niche. After 7:00pm, we will relocate to the Angst Gallery next door to listen to a personal talk about Stephanie Strickland’s work from the artist herself. Guests are welcome to stay and visit with students from the CMDC program and with Strickland after the lecture concludes at 8:30pm.
