What happened next...
Shocked the world..
The Club fought their way back to the World Series 7 times between 1909 and 1945..
But failed to capture another world title.
During game 4 of the 1945 series. Billy Goat Tavern owner, William Sianis was asked to leave Wrigley field due to the odor of his pet goat that was in attendance with him..
While being escorted out of the stadium. Mr. Sianis was heard shouting, "The Cubs, they ain't gonna win no more!"
While no one could be sure exactly what he meant..
From 1947-1966 the Cubs Would only have One winning season.
Though, slowly improving, by the late 70's the Cubs diehard fanbase dubbed the team the "Lovable Losers"
During the 80's the team would finally manage to make the playoffs for the first time since '45 (1984, 1989)
Despite having several future hall of famers on the squad, they would only make it back to postseason play a mere 4 (1998,2003,2007,2008) times during the next 19 seasons.
In 2015, The club won 96 games. Earned the final spot in the playoffs via the Wildcard game, and went on to win the division decisively, 3 games to 1.
Finally, the Cubs were one 'best of four' series away from going back to the World series for the first time in 70 years...
"The curse" seemed more alive than ever after the team was swept in the NLCS, losing four straight.
The following season, the "Lovable Losers" proved more lovable than ever. they posted a 103-58 record
They marched through the playoffs only dropping 3, out of 10 games in their first two series.
71 years after "the curse" was initiated, the Chicago Cubs would make it back to the World Series...
