Due Nov. 30: Continue working on your Capstone Project (remember it is due Dec. 5th at 2:50pm) and make sure you bring in your files so you can use in class work time. I will be posting the list of presenters for both days shortly.
Due Nov. 28: Keep refining your Capstone Project and bring all of your files to class for studio time and feedback. I would like at least five volunteers to present their Capstone Projects so far on Thurs. Nov. 30th. Keep in mind the Capstone Project is due Tuesday, Dec. 5th and we will be having 3 min. presentations on Dec. 5th & 7th. Have a restful Thanksgiving Break!
I have to miss class on Nov. 18th, but it is still an in-class studio work day. Bring all of your Capstone Project files so you can get feedback from Sierra & Dr. John Barber. If you have any additional questions, please email me or stop by my office from noon-2:20pm on Nov. 18th. Have a restful Thanksgiving break!
Due Nov. 14: Finalize your first media object and upload it to the OneDrive folder. Make sure to bring all of your in-progress files for your Capstone Project for an in-class critique and work time. Remember that presentations start on Thursday, Nov. 30th, so it is important to get as far as you can on all three components (website and 2 media objects) to get sufficient feedback.

Due Nov. 16: Continue working on your Capstone Project and bring in all of your files for in-class critiques and studio time. Keep in mind that the Capstone Project is due on Tuesday, Dec. 5th, but I need a minimum of 5 volunteers to present what they have so far on Thursday, Nov. 30th.
Due Nov. 9: Finalize your Capstone Project website and be ready to show it to others. Also, have a draft of either your infographic, animation, or remix for class so you can get feedback on it.

Due Nov. 2: Write a 250 word blog post on the class website (select the Student Work category) describing the subject matter and direction you are going to take in your Capstone Project. Which two media objects will you complete in your project? How do these two media objects relate to each other, your website, and your chosen subject matter? Keep in mind the subject matter for your Capstone Project needs to be focused on a social or cultural topic and please contact me if you have any questions about your chosen topic. Then, take the information produced on your blog post and rework it for a series of five tweets on Twitter with the idea that the audience will include potential employers, family members, and community leaders, as well as your friends. Make sure to include relevant hashtags that relate to your topic and that your tweets are public. Embed those five tweets at the bottom of your blog post.
Due Oct. 31: No homework due to class server migration. Think about your Capstone Project and be ready to discuss with me in class your ideas.
Due Oct. 26: Using the Template file as a starting point, create three html files that each have one of your three YouTube (or Vimeo) videos embedded (using the <iframe> tag!), two internal links to your other pages in your navigation bar, and three external links to your subject matter. Create an external CSS file that has your styling for your three pages and include that in a folder with your three html files. Be creative with your layout and styling of your three html files and make sure you replace the video tag with your iframe video code from Youtube and vimeo. Upload your Last name_First nameHW14 folder with your four files to the Activity #14 folder to the class server.
Please be aware that you will not be able to access the class server Fri. Oct. 27th – Mon. Oct. 30th.
Due Oct. 24: Finalize your single paged hand-coded HTML website resume. Include your education with your degree you are earning (and/or have already earned), work experience, essential skills, and interests. Work with an external stylesheet to format your website and work with unordered lists, as well as the hierarchy of text. Include links to your Youtube and Vimeo accounts that you just created (we will be using these for uploading our animations & remixes), too. Name your html file “index.html” and place it in a folder labeled with your Last name_First name along with your external stylesheet (i.e. ‘name-resume.css’). Upload the folder to the class server under Activity #13.
Due Oct. 19: Create a free account with Code Academy and complete 50% of this tutorial on HTML/CSS.
Due Oct. 12: Keep working on your 45sec. animated infographics as it will be due on Tuesday, Oct. 17. If you did not submit your 15sec. on Tuesday, Oct. 10th, turn it in today.
Due Oct. 10: Using Illustrator, Photoshop, or AE text/imagery you drew yourself, create a 15-second animated infographic to introduce the viewer to your animated infographic topic in After Effects. Given the time constraints (15 seconds and how long it takes the viewer to read text and moving images), create animated text and imagery that introduces the topic and main issues to help visualize the concepts behind the topic of your animated infographic that you will create. Do not record a voice over, but include a background music track within your animation to help you animate to a beat. Render out your animation using the H.264 format and make sure the file is named: Last name_First name11.mp4. Also, create a .doc works cited file. Submit your works cited .doc as well as your After Effects project file (with any Ai/Ps files), and rendered animation file to the Activity #11 folder on the class server.
No office hours on 10/4/17, but please email me if you have any questions.
Due Oct. 5: Watch ch 4 & 5 of After Effects CC 2015 Essential Training with Ian Robinson and complete your storyboard for your proposed 45 sec. animated infographic.
Due Oct. 3: Create a 45 second video mash up of the four videos linked below. Work with effects and keyframe animation in After Effects to create a video that considers the subject matter of your audio and video juxtaposed together. Be creative in your approach to your mash up. Render out your mash up using the H.264 format and Match Source settings for the 1280×720 composition, and only upload your exported video file to the class server with the naming convention: “Last name_First name9”. Utilize an audio track from one of the videos.
All videos are on the class server in the Class Demo folder.
Due Sept. 28: Watch ch 1 & 2 of After Effects CC 2017 Essential Training: The Basics on Lynda.com.
Due Sept. 26: Record another person cooking eggs in any style and plating the finished eggs. Talk with them before they make the eggs about their process of cooking eggs. Consider the angle of your shots and how you can show through editing the process of the eggs being cooked. Export your 30 second video as a “Match Source-High Bitrate” preset with H.264 format video file with AAC audio. Make sure your edited video is HD at either 1280×720 or 1920×1080 pixel dimensions. Work with a variety of shots and framing techniques. Do not add any additional music tracks; use only the audio recorded during the filming. Upload only your final edited video into a folder (named Last name_First name8) to the Activity #8 folder on the class server.
Due Sept. 21: Manipulate video on a timeline and combine video files for a remix utilizing what you have learned about Fair Use, copyright, and the Creative Commons. Use 3-5 Creative Commons video files (not the ones on the class server or shown in class) to create a 1 min. video remix on any subject matter of your choice though it must be suitable for a general audience. Consider the juxtaposition and content of the videos when edited into a sequence, as well as the sound design of your remix video. Export your remix using Match Source-High Bitrate preset with H.264 format and AAC audio. Name your exported file: Last name_First name7.mp4 and upload this file along with your Premiere project file and a PDF or Word doc with the links to all of the videos you used to the Activity #7 folder. You can use the audio from the Creative Commons videos we used in class or any other CC audio file.
Bring in your charged cell phones and be ready to shoot video with them!
Due Sept. 19: Utilizing your phone (or audio recorder) and the recording techniques discussed in class, create a 1 min. sound story that has a narrative arch to it. This could be you doing something in your day-to-day activities, such as working out at the gym, making dinner for your family, going on a hike, etc. Record all of the sounds associated with this process and then edit the audio down to 1 min. and export it as a .mp3 and .wav/.aif file. Make sure export your audio as an aiff, wav and .mp3 file named: Last name_first name6 and upload it to the Activity #6 folder on the class server along with the project file and your source sound files.
Due Sept. 14: No homework due, but make sure you bring an audio recording device (could just be your cell phone with a voice/audio recording app already downloaded) to class.
Due Sept. 12: Utilizing the editing techniques shown in class, create a 45 second mash up with 4 Creative Commons licensed files. Work with storytelling and juxtaposition in your mash up and precision with your editing of all of the tracks. Export your audio as a 16 bit aiff (or .wav) file named: Last name_first name5.aiff (or .wav) and upload it to the Homework #5 folder on the class server along with the Audacity or Garage Band project file and the 4 audio sound files you used in your mash up. Double check that your audio files are under a Creative Commons license. Include your audio files within your homework folder.
Due Sept. 7: Create an infographic that visualizes one statistic about data on a single topic through the use of text and imagery. In Illustrator, create an RGB file that has an artboard that is 800x800px at 72ppi. Design the visual layout of text and hand drawn imagery in Illustrator to develop the designs of your infographic that relate to your statistic. Consider how your color palette and font choice relate to your topic and make sure to include the URL to your data information. Outline any text (except URL) if you used an uncommon font for any text. Make sure your file is named: Last name_first name4.ai and uploaded into the Homework #4 folder on the class server.
Due Sept. 5: 1) Take a photo of yourself in class using Photobooth and draw a vector image of your self portrait at 1080px x 720px 72 ppi, RGB color mode. Use the layering technique I demonstrated in class and place your embedded image in a layer in your Ai file. Make sure your layers and sublayers are organized and labeled. Use one of the hand drawing approaches demonstrated in class to create a vector drawn self-portrait using the pen and brush tools. Make sure your file is named: Last name_first name3.ai and uploaded into the Homework #3 folder on the class server.
2) Watch ch. 1-5 of Illustrator CC 2017 Essential Training on Lynda.com.
Due Aug. 31: Create a redesign of a launcher icon for an iOS mobile app in a psd file that has a pixel dimension of 250px x 180px (height x width), 401 ppi. Work to simplify the design considering the current flat style of the iOS10. Make sure to include small text with the name of the launcher app icon below the 180px x 180px shaped app icon with non-rounded edges. Keep your layers organized with groups that are labeled. Also, make sure to include an embedded image of the old app icon design on a layer in your document. Make sure your file is named: Last name_first name2.psd and uploaded into the Section 2 Homework #2 folder on the class server.
Watch ch. 1 of Adobe Pen Tool: Mastery on Lynda.com in order to go over the basics of using the Pen Tool.
Due Aug. 29: Resize the original sunset image on the class server to these three sizes: 1334 x 946 at 326ppi, 1920 x 1363 at 401ppi, 180×180 at 72ppi. Your files should all be named in this format: Last name_first name1A.psd, Last name_first name1B.psd, and Last name_first name1C.psd. Make sure you have these files uploaded at the beginning of class into the Section 2 Homework #1 folder.
Due Aug. 24: Purchase or obtain a monthly subscription to Lynda.com and watch ch. 1, 2, & 3 of Photoshop CC 2015 One-on-One Fundamentals.
