DTC 375 Final Project Outline

Due Date – April 24

For your final project, you will collaborate with a 4 or 5 person group to create a networked document that either tells a story, analyzes one of the readings from the class, or describes a digital technology using concepts discussed over the course of the semester. By “networked document” I mean that 3 or 4 members from each team (depending on size of team) will approach the project using a different medium or platform. For example, one member of a team may create an iMovie, another may use Comic Life, and a third might create a pod cast. All of these will focus on the same topic without simply repeating each other in different mediums. The remaining party member will act as a project manager and write a project summary.

Each team member will post their portion of the project on their Word Press sites. These will include links to either other team member sites. There can be an established sequence between pieces, in which each piece will meet the next in sequence, or each site can link back to the project manager’s site, which would serve as a central hub for the project.

Each group will present their project to the class over the last week of class. Presentations should be around 20 minutes in duration.

The final project will count for 20% of your total grade. Grading for the project will be slightly different for project managers from the rest of the group.

Standard grading will be as follows

Your own piece – 45%

This will be based on the quality of the content and your uses of the particular affordances of the medium.

Personal and Team Evaluation – 15%

You will write 2 short (200 to 300 words) papers that evaluate your contribution to the project and your evaluation of your team member’s contributions. These will be turned in to me the day the projects are due.

Overall – 25%

This will be based on the quality of the overall work. An important component of this portion of the grade will rely on how will the separate pieces interact with one another.

Presentation – 15%

Each group will present their project to the class over the last week of class. Presentations should be around 20 minutes in duration.

Project Manager grading will be as follows

Project Summary – 25%

Projects managers will write a 500 – 700 page summary of the group project. This should include the intended strategy and concept behind the project, major challenges encountered, and any lessons learned from the project. This document should be accessible from the project hub

Project Hub – 10%

The project manager will be responsible for maintaining the project hub on their Word Press site. This will include navigation to all pieces within the project and the project summary

Personal and Team Evaluations – 15%

You will write 2 short (200 to 300 words) papers that evaluate your contribution to the project and your evaluation of your team member’s contributions. These will be turned in to me the day the projects are due.

Overall – 30%
