Chimera Ants: Deceptively Dangerous
Chimera ants are a species of carnivorous insect, native to the Dark Continent. However, they have been found in the NGL or "Neo-Green League" and East Gorteau, due to both countries featuring a very isolationist nature. In an ordinary case, these creatures and their queen would be exterminated on the spot. They are one of, if not the most dangerous species in the entire world. The main threat posed by them is their ability to continually and exponentially grow stronger and more intelligent. Chimera Ants reproduce via a process called phagogenisis. This process allows the queen, who is in a normal hierarchy, the only one of them able to reproduce, to impart the genes of prey on to the next generation. This essentially transfers the most important and powerful qualities, including human intelligence. Ants are capable of rapid evolution, even able to surpass humans in mere weeks.
So, how does Chimera Ant evolution work? How do they start from mere insects (albeit dangerous and able to draw blood) to being godlike beings easily surpassing humanity? In normal Chimera Ant social hierarchy, the Queen is at the top. She is a formidable opponent in her own right and physically powerful, but stays isolated typically in a cave in an inconspicuous location, in order to safely reproduce. She will consume as many weaker creatures as she can, and impart their genetic traits to the next generation. Subsequent generations essentially go out on scouting and hunting missions, coming back to the queen with food and more genetic material. She will then lay her eggs and continue to produce more advanced generations of Chimera Ants, each one stronger, smarter, and more durable than the last. Contact with humans is inevitable, and this is when disaster strikes. Disaster further compounds when the social hierarchy is disrupted, and the more powerful king takes hold. This is best observed with the functional leader of the species, and the pinnacle of evolution, Meruem.
Due to Chimera Ants being extraordinarily genetically flexible, they are easily able to absorb all essential components of humankind. Future generations are easily born with speech and high level learning, as well as fragments of human memories, of their components. They are able to learn extremely quickly, and even can learn to use Nen. They possess superior physical strength to humans, and often have advantageous traits of other animals, such as the super speed of a cheetah, or the wings of an eagle.
