computer technology and the written message

For my DTC 375 capstone project, I have chosen to focus on three words (Writing, Message, and Computer Technology) which we have talked about throughout this semester. I chose these words because I have had personal involvement with creating printed work over the last three and a half decades, and have watched how computer technology has dramatically revolutionized the way we write and deliver our messages to our audiences during this transformative period in publishing.

Over the years, people have worked hard and in many ways to share what they have to say with others through writing. With the invention of writing and the development of printing, publishing has been made possible and is one of the main ways we currently get our information out and shared with a public audience. Whether we intend to advertise something, write an article in a periodical, deliver daily information in a newspaper, write a book, or compose a daily blog, publishing that information takes knowledge of the process and technologies necessary to produce the intended method of delivery. Also required, is the expertise in the processes to properly format the content, so the intended message is communicated correctly.

The way authors create and deliver their written work to their intended audiences has changed dramatically, especially over the past 35 years. Until the advent of the computer technologies that brought us desktop publishing software, digital printing, and the internet, delivering their message was a challenge for early authors. With these new technologies in publishing, we have seen a significant shift from a physical and manual process, to a digital one, which has made publishing information easier, quicker, and more affordable than ever before. Computer technologies have also brought change to the message of written work with the expansion of new mediums and ways to deliver them.

Why Does It Matter?

My CONCLUSION

The development of computers and technology has immensely improved the way numerous industries conduct business over the past 30 years, but without a doubt, none have benefited more than publishing. Publishing to communicate through writing has evolved with the advent of computer technologies that brought us desktop publishing software, digital printing, and the internet. These new digital technologies made publishing information easier, quicker, and more affordable than ever before. Publishing work has been able to expand to the global community with new digital mediums. These new mediums have brought changes to the way the message is now published. As our culture continues to change and evolve with time, so will the mediums in order to accommodate our needs. We must continually take into account how an audience will respond to the message being delivered by a particular medium in order to effectively write for that medium.
