- Prep Time: 30 min prep
- Bake Time: 1 hour OR 45 min convection
- Tools: 1 deep pan, 1 wooden spoon, 1 large and 1 small mixing bowl
- Serves: 8 people OR 2 hungry teenagers
Ingredients
- 2lbs Ground Beef (85% Lean)
- 1 Large finely chopped Yellow Onion
- 2 Eggs
- 1 cup Ketchup
- 1 cup Vermont Maple Syrup
- 2 tbsp Yellow Mustard
- 2 cups Dry Grapenuts Cereal
- To Taste Salt & Black Pepper
Step by step
- 1. Preheat oven to 375 Degrees F. In the large mixing bowl combine ground beef, eggs, Grapenuts cereal, chopped onion, salt and pepper. You may need to use your hands to get everything mixed together, so make sure you wash your hands before and after!
- 2. In the small mixing bowl combine maple syrup, ketchup, and mustard. Pour about half of the glaze mix into the large bowl and combine with a spoon or your hands, reserve half for the top of the meatloaf. Cover and place in refridgerator for 15 minutes to let the flavors get to know eachother.
- 3. Spray with oil or liberally butter the bottom and sides of your deep baking dish. Spread meatloaf into your dish until it is relatively even (approx. 1-2 inches tall in the center)
- 4. With the handle of your wooden spoon poke holes uniformly across the surface of your meatloaf. Pour your remaining glaze mix on top of the meatloaf spreading evenly across the top and into the divets you made with your spoon.
- 5. Place in oven and bake for 1 hour or 45 minutes at convection setting. Use baking time to prepare any sides you wish to serve with your meatloaf. Nana Kingston recommends mashed potatoes and green beans with bacon.
- 6. Remove meatloaf from oven and let cool for 15 minutes. Serve warm with your prepared sides OR save it for tomorrow and make meatloaf sandwiches!
