Dimitri Myers Capstone Project

Hello, I am Dimitri. For our Capstone project we were asked to create a website to portray our information on the topic that we chose.

Within my remix, and infographic which I chose to do on the misinformation regarding video games in society. I decided to use a combination of a remixed video compilation that is accompanied by an infographic to illustrate the glaring biases that the video game community faces. In terms of social relevance, the video remix will explain the benefits that video games offer as both a learning platform as well as a societal tool.

Whereas, the infographic will show the limited credibility behind the allegations that video games make people violent, and as such are portrayed as a threat to society.

To produce the video, I chose references of games within movies, and tv shows that are prominent among today’s generations. Many of these mediums vilify video games and blame them for teens and young adults acting out, or being violent to the extreme of classifying video games as an addiction within the DSM-V. With that said there is a fair amount of research that shows that video games help with coordination, improved reflexes, better team skills, and social skills like empathy.

I chose video games because they have been an integral part of society for thousands of years, a good example of this was a 20-sided die known as a D20 among the Dungeons & Dragons community that dated back to the Roman Empire which gives me reason to believe that for as long as humanity has been around we have created games as a way of expression.
