LOTR movie locations

After J.R.R Tolkien wrote the Lord Of The Rings trilogy, Peter Jackson began secured the rights to the Lord of The Rings in 1997 from producer Saul Zaentz. He then went on to create one of the most iconic franchises of his time, winning 17 Oscars and received knighthood as well as the title associated with it. He is now known as Sir Peter Robert Jackson.

Mount Doom

This is the location of where Mount Doom was filmed during the entirety of the Lord Of the Rings trilogy. This is also where the battle between the free people's of Middle Earth under Isildur and the dark lord Sauron, and Frodo and Samwise are trapped by Shelob the giant spider. Later on in the storyline the two aforementioned Hobbits will also meet their guide Gollum, a twisted product of the ring that was once a Hobbit.

Hobbiton

Hobbiton was the home of the Hobbits which included Frodo, Samwise, Mary, Pippin, and of course Frodo's uncle Bilbo Baggins. It is fitting this is also where their journey to save Middle Earth begins, and would be reused in all of the later films as a Hobbit town.

Paths Of The Dead

One of the main protagonists Aragorn travels this path to regain his glory and an unexpected allegiance. Eventually this is the kicking off point for the Return of the King main battle.

Edoras

Edoras is home to the Rohan, an equestrian based society, and a source of dark magic until Gandalf expels Grima Wormtongue. This later provides the saving blow in both the battles of Pelennor Fields and after the break throughj to Minas Tirith.

Hobbiton & The Forests

Perhaps one of the most overlooked areas of the franchise, part of Hobbiton as well as the surrounding forests actually housed the WETA workshop which created all of the props for the trilogy. Later it would serve as the River Anduin which Frodo crosses after meeting Aragorn, and boasts the Gardens of Isengard.
