A Synopsis of Death Note

Death Note is an anime about a boy named Light Yagami who discovers a mysterious notebook after it fell from the sky. The notebook was dropped by a shinigami (God of Death) named Ryuk, who hoped someone interesting would pick it up. Light learns that the notebook has the power to kill people by writing a person's name in it, so he uses this knowledge to rid the world of criminals, while Ryuk simply observes. Light's actions attract the attention of government agencies who enlist L, the greatest detective in the world, to catch him. This leads to a cat-and-mouse chase between L and Light, both extremely intelligent, making it feel like a game of chess.
