This map covers some of the largest major Anime conventions within North America - With a focus in Japanese Animation and similar media. It serves to help paint a picture of the events that celebrate these things all over the country, display relevant information based upon each convention, and help demonstrate the magnitude of each event to help solidfy their relevancy in modern popular culture.

Presented by the Asia Northwest Cultural Education Association, Sakura-Con is the oldest and most well attended anime convention in the Pacific Northwest.

Anime Expo

Anime Expo, abbreviated AX, is an American anime convention held in Los Angeles, California and organized by the non-profit Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA).

Anime Matsuri

Anime Matsuri is an annual three-day anime convention traditionally held during spring at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. The convention's name comes from the Japanese word 'matsuri' meaning festival. Based on self-reported attendance numbers, Anime Matsuri is the 2nd largest North American anime convention as of 2017.

Akon

A-Kon, known as Project: A-Kon for a single year, is a three-day anime convention held annually in Dallas, Texas on the last weekend of June. First held in 1990 with just 380 people in attendance, A-Kon is North America's longest running convention primarily focused on anime. The convention is the 3rd largest North American anime convention as of 2017.

Anime North

Anime North (AN) is a non-profit, fan-run anime convention, held every year in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The convention is the 4th largest North American anime convention as of 2017.

Anime Weekend Atlanta

Anime Weekend Atlanta (AWA) is an annual four-day anime convention held during September/October at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel, Cobb Galleria Centre, and Sheraton Suites Galleria in Atlanta, Georgia. The convention is the largest Southeastern anime convention and 5th largest in North America as of 2017.

Anime Central

Anime Central (ACen) is an annual three-day anime convention held during May at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare & Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois. The convention is the 6th largest North American anime convention as of 2017. The convention is organized by the Midwest Animation Promotion Society (MAPS).

Otakon

Otakon is an annual three-day anime convention held during July/August. From 1999 to 2016, it took place at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland's Inner Harbor district; in 2017, it moved to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. The convention focuses on East Asian popular culture (primarily anime, manga, music, and cinema) and its fandom. The name is a portmanteau derived from convention and the Japanese word otaku. Otakon is one of the longest-running anime conventions in the United States and is the 9th largest North American anime convention as of 2017.

Anime Boston

Anime Boston is an annual three-day anime fan convention held in the spring in Boston, Massachusetts, United States. The convention is the 7th largest North American anime convention as of 2017. Anime Boston was created and is run by the New England Anime Society, Inc., a Massachusetts-based non-profit organization.

Youmacon

Youmacon is an annual four-day anime convention held during November at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center and Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan. Youmacon's creation was inspired by other conventions including Anime Central and Ohayocon with the convention's name coming from the Japanese word for demon or ghost.
