Step 1:Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees F (200 dgrs C). Brush 2 tablespoons of melted butter on to the 9 inch baking dish.
Step 2: To prepare the dough, combine flour, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt in a spacious bowl. Incorporate 3 tablespoons of softened butter into the mixture by using your hands.
Step 3: Whisk together milk and egg in a separate bowl, then pour this mixture into the flour-butter blend and use a rubber spatula to stir until a soft dough comes together.
Step 4: Transfer the dough onto a generously floured working surface and flatten it into a rectangle that is 1/4-inch thick. Apply the remaining 2 tablespoons of melted butter onto the dough's surface.
Step 5: For the filling: Combine 1/2 cup granulated sugar, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a small bowl. Sprinkle half of this cinnamon sugar mixture onto the bottom of the baking dish that you've prepared. Then, sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture over the dough that has been brushed with butter.
Step 6: Roll the dough around the filling to create a log shape. Slice the log into 18 individual rolls and arrange these rolls in the baking dish that you've already prepared.
Step 7: Bake the rolls, for approximately 20 to 25 minutes. (They should feel firm and set once fully baked)
Step 8: For the frosting: In a bowl, whisk together confectioners' sugar, cream cheese, 1/4 cup of softened butter, and vanilla extract until the frosting achieves a smooth consistency.
Step 9: While the cinnamon rolls are hot and fresh, add the icing on top. (This will achieve the best results!)
Step 10: Finally, enjoy your perfect and quick cheat day cinnamon rolls!
