A hallmark of the Creative Media & Digital Culture program is its commitment to civic engagement. While this ethos is expressed in all classes in the Program, it is especially pertinent to the Senior Seminar. In this course, taken within the last two semesters before graduation, students create digital media objects like videos, websites, 3D simulations, mobile apps, or write policy for social media and other digital technologies, for local non-profit organizations. This experience enhances students' preparation for either professional jobs or graduate school by providing a learning environment where students can apply theory and practice acquired in their classes and, at the same time, helps to better the community.
The Senior Seminar designated course is DTC 476 Digital Literacies. The course offers three credits toward graduation and results in a letter grade (A, B, C, D, F).
During the semester, students complete an online digital portfolio, which includes a resume, examples of digital works, and biographical details. In addition to creating projects, class time is devoted to the crafting and polishing of professional resumes and learning presentational, negotiation, and interviewing skills. Students are encouraged to participate in WSUV's and the CMDC's Program's career events.
The Senior Seminar is available for DTC majors in good academic standing (GPA 2.5 or higher) at the senior level who have completed at least six hours of DTC 300 or 400 level courses. Students minoring in DTC or pursuing a DTC concentration may also take the Senior Seminar, with permission from the Program Director.
