Good Food in Portland, Oregon

Portland Oregon is known for it's foodie culture. But with so many amazing restaurants, some people wonder where to start their journey to happy tastebuds. I've highlighted six restaurants I believe are some of the best Portland has to offer. As a bonus, they are all local businesses!

Porque No Taqueria- N Mississippi Ave.

Founded in 2004, Porque No Taqueria has been offering a large selection of tacos, bowls, and signature margaritas.

My go to order is:

  • Bryan's bowl with carnitas and pineapple
  • Chips and salsa
  • Strawberry and lime juice

Kayos Ramen Bar- N Williams Ave.

A great place for ramen, potstickers, and saki! Try out the miso ramen, or for a spicier option, the TanTan.

Nuestra Cocina- SE Division St.

Meaning "Our kitchen" in Spanish, Nuestra Cocina is a combination of classic Spanish dishes with reimagined twists. If you're looking to share a few small plates with a friend or partner, I reccomend the ceviche del dia, gorditas rellenos, y taquitos de carne desebrada.

Gorditas Rellenos

La Calaca Comelona- SE Belmont St.

La Calaca Comelona is probably my favorite restaurant in Portland. The vibes and food are very comforting and the staff is amazing. When in season, they have an amazing pear quesadilla! The combination sounds strange, but the combination is surprisingly tasty!

Eem- N Williams Ave.

Named Portland's restaurant of the year in 2019, Eem is a delicious mix of Thai and barbeque. I reccomend the BBQ fried rice, fried chicken, and the Thai tea.

The Whole Bowl- SE Hawthorne Blvd.

Whole bowl is a great spot for those who hate long menus. Customers have the choice of the bambino bowl, or the big bowl. Personally I love the big bowl, which has rice, beans, black olives, Tillamook cheddar, avocado, sour cream, cilantro, salsa, and tali sauce. The tali sauce is what really makes this bowl stand out.
