Stephen King born in Portland, Main in 1947 is the son of Donald and Nellie King, who would later on separate when Stephen King would become a toddler. After his parents had separated he and his brother, David, were then taken under the care of their mother. Parts of King's upbringing were spent in places such as Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Stratford, Connecticut. After some times Nellie ended up bringing her children back to Durham, Maine.
King had attended grammar school while in Durham, Maine and then went on to attend the Lisbon Falls High School, where he graduated alongside the class of 1966. After graduating King had attended the University of Maine in Orono, and while spending his time there studying he worked and wrote a weekly column for the university newspaper called The Maine Campus. Not only did he find an interest in writing for the school newspaper but he also found an interest in student politics, serving as a member of the Student Senate. He had also at one point came to support the anti-war movement at the university in which he shared his views that the war in Vietnam was unconstitutional. King had graduated from the University of Maine in 1970 with a Bachelor's Arts degree in English and with a qualificaiton to teach at the high school level.
In June of 1970 King had a daughter with Tabitha Spruce named Naomi King and a year afterwards King and Spruce married. They had both met when they both worked and attended the university library. In June of 1972, they had a son named Joe Hill, who like his father, grew up to become a writer and then in February of 1977 they had another son and named him Owen King, he also grew up to become a writer as well.
