For my first post, I will answer these important questions:
How do you define "inclusion?" What does it mean for an environment to be inclusive?
Inclusion, in a broad yes basic sense, is the ability for anyone and everyone to be a part of something. Inclusivity is a key need when it comes to having people feel like they matter. An inclusive environment shows that there is less judgment, sides, and hate. It means that no matter what makes you different, you'll still be able to be here, participate, and exist.
Inclusivity as a social construct can vary in people's minds, but the base of it all that makes it what it is, is to let differences be together. Saying that differences are ok, and are accepted, no matter what they are.
What do you think are the particular benefits of online environments for inclusion?
The benefits online inclusivity gives allow more people to be happy, basically. It allows people with differences to be able to interact with each other, and can oftentimes lead them to learning new things they never would have if they were not in an inclusive environment.
The ability to learn and grow are some of the things an inclusive environment can give to people, even online. With an inclusive online environment, people from wherever can talk to there's, whether they might live on the same street, or on the opposite side of the world, they can talk, interact. That interaction opportunity can lead to learning and growth.
What do you think are the particular challenges in online environments for inclusion?
Most challenges when it comes to online inclusive environments often have to do with the people themselves. Inclusion is always good, but the territory of personality and opinion is what makes most of it difficult. People will fight over what they think is right, be rude or disturbing with the expectation of no consequences, all to people they see as strangers.
In terms of inclusivity as an online challenge however. Conflict in what should be included in sections and communities of the online world will always be present, as inclusivity is only made with the hands of open minded people.
