Evergreen Today was the name of the weekly school news videos at Evergreen High School. During my third year of highschool I enrolled in a video production class, by the end of it, the instructor of the class asked me to join the news team.
I joined the news team as an elective class the next semester. I became a segment producer, creating my own entertainment segment for the news weekly.
My first segment on the news was "Top 5".
In this segment I would pick a popular topic and find the top five most popular of that subject to relay to students. These topics were usually video games, movies, shows or music.
Many students enjoyed the segment as it focused on topics they liked. It also raised those topics to be casually discussed more, as I heard once after one of my video game news segments that students were arguing over 'if Animal Crossing should have been above Doom' for new games with the most popularity.
When the pandemic started however, we could not return to school. The school news continued though.
With the change of circumstances we had to create our segments at home, which caused some changes and difficulty in producing and/or editing the content. I continued Top 5 till the semester ended, but when I entered my senior year and was still part of the news, I decided to make a new segment that could be easier to produce at home.
I created "Jazzy's Jokes", a segment where my younger sister, Jasmine, would read around 3 cute jokes to the audience. It was simple, and everyone loved a little 7 year old telling them jokes and smiling.
I also offered my voice as the announcer whenever the main announcers could not get their audio in on time.
Work I also did well on this team was, I and a few others who were good with the cameras got to be the camera people for the 2020 talent show. My position was "creative shots" so I was positioned in the front row. I was in charge of the close up shots, panning shots, and any time the camera tried to follow the performer.
That was one of my favorite things I had done. I am sad that because the pandemic hit so suddenly, the footage could not be edited in time and was left in the computer room as the school was abandoned for online the rest of the semester.
