Bulgogi is a popular Korean dish made from thinly sliced beef marinated in a sweet and savory sauce, typically made from soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and sesame oil. The word "bulgogi" literally means "fire meat," as the dish was traditionally cooked over an open flame. Today, it is commonly prepared on a grill or a stovetop griddle....
Bulgogi is often served with a variety of side dishes, including rice, kimchi, and a range of pickled vegetables. It can also be served wrapped in lettuce leaves or sesame leaves, with a variety of condiments such as ssamjang (a spicy dipping sauce) and gochujang (a fermented chili paste). Bulgogi is enjoyed not only in Korea, but also in many other parts of the world, and is a favorite of both meat lovers and non-meat eaters alike, as it can also be made with chicken or tofu.
Bulgogi has a long history in Korea, dating back to the Goguryeo Dynasty, which ruled from 37 BCE to 668 CE. At that time, beef was considered a luxury food reserved for royalty and the wealthy, and it was often consumed during special occasions such as weddings and ceremonies. The dish gained popularity during the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), when Korean cuisine underwent a significant transformation and many dishes were refined and developed.
Bulgogi was traditionally made using high-quality cuts of beef, which were marinated and then grilled over an open flame. Over time, the dish has evolved and can now be made with a variety of meats and cooking methods. Today, it is one of the most popular Korean dishes both in Korea and around the world, and is a testament to the rich culinary heritage of the country.
