The Three were the ruling gods of the Dunmer People until the destruction of the Heart of Lorkhan in the 427th year of the 3rd era. Now referred to as the False Tribunal by most Dunmer People, The ALMSIVI were responsible for the race's evolution from Chimer to Dunmer, while the good daedra were responsible for their development from Aldmer to Chimer.
The ALMSIVI were once Chimer before they used an ancient artifact called the Heart of Lorkhan to attain immortality. The Heart of Lorkhan is one of the many fragments of the slain trickster god, it was of immense power and is often cited as having been responsible for the disappearance of the Dwemer race during their study of it. After their unprecedented success the ALMSIVI were worshipped as god-rulers in Morrowind by their now Dunmer people.
Each of the ALMSIVI are in part representations of one of the old three gods of the Dunmer. By extension they are also representative of three opposing ideologies. While the ALMSIVI are supposed to have been allied and cooperate with one another, eventually their differing ideologies led to the deterioration of their relationships with each other. With each of the three secluding to their own individual interests.
Sotha Sil was said to be the projection of the old goddess Azura. Azura's domain is to do with the passage of time and the change it brings. Sotha Sil reflects her domain in his ideology of radical change and the pursuit of improvement through experimentation. Among the ALMSIVI he is the only one to display exclusively Dunmeri traits (red eyes/pupils, gray skin tone), while the other two still have some Chimeri traits (diverse eyes/pupils, gold skin tone).
Vivec was said to be the projection of the old goddess Mephala. Mephala's domain is not understood by mortals, but she is generally theorized to rule the domain of of manipulation, trickery, and betrayal. Vivec is generally received as a very heroic and understanding warrior poet. How he exemplifies Mephala's domain is not understood. Vivec's ideology is a more neutral stance than his peers. His philosophy is one of moderation. Vivec values the traditions of his people's past while looking for new solutions to coming issues in the future. This is represented by his very flesh, with one half of his body retaining its golden Chimer skin tone while the other displays his gray Dunmer coloration.
Almalexia was said to be the projection of the old god Boethiah. Boethiah's domain has to do with cunning, deception, and rebellion. Almalexia reflects his domain in her traditionalist ideologies. Chimeri and by extension Dunmeri culture was given to them through Boethiah. He showed them how to live in the inhospitible environment of Morrowind, and it was his influence that brought the prophet Veloth across the continent of Tamriel to found the Chimer homeland. Almalexia even visual represents her traditionalist culture physically through her Chimeri physical traits.
