With these hands...I can create. I am an artist, always drawing, always designing, always making. Ever since I was little, art has been my passion and now, with these hands I can create things like never before.
With these hands...I can comfort. I am empathetic, always considering the feelings of others so, with these hands, I can comfort the people closest to me.
With these hands...I can touch. I touch my surroundings, feeling textures, soft, bumpy, prickly, smooth. With these hands I touch my surroundings acknowleging their presence.
With these hands...I can express. I use gestures like, pointing, waving, and even sign language to signal others so, with these hands, I express my feelings and emotions.
With these hands...I can hold. I hold the weight of the world within my grip. I have the power to make change. With these hands, I have the ability to help change the world.
Hey there, my name's Josalyn Ortiz! I am a current student at WSUV majoring in DTC. Over the course of 2021-2022 I began dabbling in coding. For this specific project, I was challenged to create a narriative website. In the following weeks, my class looked at some examples of narrative websites and one site in particular stuck my interest. My Body by Shelly Jackson. After exploring this site for myself, I was instantly inspired and wanted to create something similar but, with my own twist and creativity. With these hands is a narrative site that explores the things I am able to do with my hands and things that are of importance to me. As you explore this short narrative, I challenge you to explore what you can with your own hands beyond what the obvious answers might be.
