Mysterious Island

Bringing Jules Verne's Literary Works to Life

The Mysterious Island port at Tokyo DisneySea is themed around the works of Jules Verne and Disney's adaption of his novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

At the center of Mysterious Island is the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea attraction. The attraction starts as a walk-through experience of Captain Nemo's secret base but the majority is an interactive dark ride inside Captain Nemo's submarine.

Journey to the Center of the Earth

The second attraction in Mysterious Island is based on Jules Verne's Journey to the Center of the Earth. The long, winding switchbacks in the queue are treated as part of the attraction as you are lead through the depths of Mount Prometheus. As you move through the queue you are surrounded by things like lab signs and specimen jars detailing Captain Nemo's work. The true ride begins when you reach the Terravator doors though.

The Terravator is an elevator that takes the guest 300 meters below sea level (at least according to the Disney cast members) and opens to an abandoned base station. You then board a track operated vehicle that takes you through the deep caverns of the volcano, eventually leading back up and exiting out the side of the volcano to safety.
