1 Cup Butter or Margarine

½ Cup Sugar

1 Egg

½ Teaspoon Salt

1 Teaspoon Flavoring (Almond or Vanilla)

2 ¼ Cups Gold Medal Flour

1) Heat oven to 400 degrees
-
2) Mix butter, sugar, egg, salt, and flavoring thoroughly in a large mixing bowl

3) Measure flour by dipping method or by sifting
-
4) Gradually work in flour
-
5) Add food coloring at this stage if you want colorful spritz
-
6) Using 1/4 of the dough at a time, force dough through cookie press on an ungreased baking sheet into your desired shapes

7) Bake spritz between 6 to 9 minutes, or until set but not brown
- A cookie press is a special baking tool used to make pressed cookies like spritz. (Example to the right)

- Important: Do not use Gold Medal Self-Raising Flour in this recipe!

Measuring Flour by Dipping
1) Dip graduated measurig cups into flour sack or canister.
2) Level off with spatula or straight-edged knife.
3) Do not tap cup to pack more flour into cup befoe leveling off.
4) Pour flour into mixing bowl with other ingredients. Or stir flour and other dry ingredients together.
