Now introducting

The Amazing Digital Circus

Scroll to start...

Why, hello there...

It looks like a NEW HUMAN has entered the digital realm!

As the ringmaster of this circus, it is my job to welcome you to this humble abode!

We're going to have loads of fun together! Going on wacky adventures, meeting new friends...

...you will even have your very own line in our theme song!

Huh, what's that?

You...don't like it here?

Nonsense! You don't mean any of that!

After all, I put in so much effort preparing everything for your arrival.

I wouldn't be a very good ringmaster and host otherwise, hehe.

Now, chin up kid!

The others are dying to meet you.

Y'all will get along just swimmingly, I can feel it.

After all, this is your new home.

And you'll never, ever, EVER want to leave.

About This Project

This narrative project is an introduction to the hit online animated series, "The Amazing Digital Circus", created by Glitch Studios. It can be watched on YouTube. In this narrative, the audience assumes the role of an unsuspecting individual that has found themselves transported into a world reminiscent of a 1990s video game. Circus paranphelia surrounds you as you are greeted by a overtly enthusiastic character that calls himself the "ringmaster." It seems that they are a bit too eager for your arrival, and any mention of leaving the place is met with negative feedback. If you are interested in this type of story, I highly recommend checking out the pilot for The Amazing Digital Circus.

The process of generating ideas was quite daunting. I went through several different concepts before deciding on this one, and that was only after I watched the TADC pilot. It was a genuinely entertaining watch, which is why I decided on introducting this series for my narrative project. I was also inspired by the concept of vertical-scroll webcomics, hence the single-lined textboxes that reveal themselves as you scroll down. I was having a hard time deciding as to whether I wanted the color pallete to match the background, or completely mimick comic-styled speech bubbles. I also spent a bit of time deciding which type of CSS animations to use, and eventually decided on a JS fade animation toggled by scroll.
