About the Cake
This recipe is for a depression era cake from Taste of Home. I picked this recipe mostly because the description of it says that tomatoe soup replaces some of the oil, which, frankly, sounds kind of gross.
Ingredients
There are surprisingly little...
- 1 package spice cake mix
- 1 can condensed tomatoe soup
- 3 large eggs
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 can of cream cheese frosting
Apparently in the Great Depression, you can't get oil, but you can get cream cheese frosting.

Other Information
According to user 06mary this is not a true depression recipe because "In 1930's there was no box cake mixes, not till 1948. I was looking for a 1930's recipe for cakes as I make from scratch. It does sound like it might be good though."
