- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 cup butter (softened)
- 1 cup poppyseeds (or two jars)
- 1 1/2 cup cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 4 egg whites
- 1 tub chocolate frosting

Steps

Preheat oven to 350°. Combine milk and poppy seeds and set aside to soak.

In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar together. In a separate bowl, combine flour and baking powder.

Add salt and vanilla extract to the butter mixture. Gradually mix dry ingredient mixture into the butter mixture.

Add the soaked poppy seeds and milk to the batter.

Grease (with butter) and flour two round baking pans thoroughly, on all sides.

Beat 4 egg whites stiff in a separate bowl.

With a spatula, gently fold in egg whites to the batter. Divide batter between the two baking pans.

Bake in oven for 30-35 minutes. Gently push the batter up to the sides of the pan to create a slight concave.

Once cooled, gently turn the cakes upside-down onto cooling racks. Frost cakes with chocolate frosting.
