.hack//G.U.

Of the two .hack// projects, .hack//G.U. was the second, released in a series of games, anime, manga, and more. Recently remastered and re-released, this series runs in line with other Japanese RPGs by having a pre-designated character, Haseo the PKK (Player Killer-Killer). It is also somewhat unique in relation to its concept. .hack//G.U. revolves around the idea of a game within a game. The person behind the controller plays a player who is playing a Virtual Reality MMORPG called The World R:2. Outside of The World R:2, the player is shown the resemblence of a desktop screen in which there are forums, email, and additional interactive features that are incorporated into the entire game as a whole providing a complete immersive narrative experience.

The displayed copies of the .hack//G.U. Trilogy are playable on the PlayStation 2.
