Yimin

Hi, I'm Yimin Que. It's nice to meet you! I emigrated from Asia with my parents in 2010. In the past almost 11 years in the United States, I have experienced school studies, entrepreneurship, and now I return to school to continue my studies in majoring Digital Technology and Culture. I am very happy to share my story with you here!

My Story

April 2010 - March 2012: Studying and Working Part-time Job

If the United States was a new world to me at that time, then life and education at Clark College were the keys to my opening and understanding of this new world. My biggest harvest at Clark College is to improve my language and gain self-confidence. I want to thank all the lovely teachers and friends I have met!

I started my part-time job as a waitress at Sushi Chiyo in September 2010. I not only gained restaurant work experiences but also made many friends from work. Through many ambitious discussions among Impulsive young people, two of my work partners and I decided to open a Chinese restaurant together. This crazy but confident decision not only changed and interrupted my study but also brought new challenges and possibilities to my later life.

April 2012 - August 2019: Running Three Restaurants

After we have experienced various challenges about the preparation work such as finding space, negotiating with landlords and the government, cooperating with construction companies, etc., we finally overcame every difficulty and ran three restaurants in the city of Corvallis, Eugene, and Vancouver.

September 2019 - March 2020: Thinking the Next Step in Life

Due to family changes and some irreversible factors, we eventually sold all our restaurants. Although there were many unwillingnesses but must start the next step of a new life. I adjusted my mentality, reviewed and analyzed my strengths and weaknesses, and thought about the direction of my future career. I found that compared with running a restaurant, I am more interested and excited about every participation in sign and menu design. So, why don't I go back to school to complete my studies and study design?

April 2020 – Present: Washington State University Vancouver

I am majoring in Digital Technology and Culture. My favorite areas of study so far include Graphic Design, Web Design, Animation, and Video Editing. My minor is in Fine Art because I also like drawing, painting, and art history. I have experience with HTML5, CSS, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects, and Adobe Premier Pro.

This is my story. I cannot determine the length of my life, but at least I can determine the width of experience.
