Selena Quintanilla was a Mexican-American Tejana Artist, also known as La Reina de Tex-Mex (The Queen of Tex-Mex) from the 80's and 90's. Selena was born in Lake Jackson, Texas, and was the lead singer of the group Selena y Los Dinos, formed by her father Abraham Quintanilla along with her other siblings. Selena's family owned a restaurant in which she performed as a kid but eventually, they went bankrupt so they resorted to touring and performing at events like fairs, weddings, and quinceañeras. Selena slowly got introduced into the Tejano music genre where she was overlooked for being a women because the genre was highly male-dominated despite that she won Female Vocalist of the Year at the Tejano Music Awards in 1987.

Selena's career began to take off as she was discovered by José Behar of EMI Latin Records she was though to have immense potential and therefore began recording with this company. Starting with small projects eventually leading to the release of her second Ablum Ven Conmigo which led her to have 2 Billboard Music Award nominations in 1992. From here her musical career took off in Latin America and the US receiving several awards including a Grammy in 1994 for Mexican/Mexican-American Album. Selena contiuned releasing more music and touring while winning the hearts of countless people adding to her fan club.

Selena was not only an extremely popular artist but she also had a great impact on pop culture being one of the first women to make it big in a Mexican male dominated music genre (Reginal and Tejano) during the 80's and 90's. She also was highly influential in the fashion and beauty industry with her unique style. Selena had 2 botiques and partcipated in a few fashion shows of her own clothes collections contributing to her fame. Unfourtuanately Selena was murdered in 1995 by Yolanda Saldívar the president of her fanclub, after Selena had discovered that she was stealing from her. Selena however remains an icon for her accomplisments, music, charisma, and beauty she is greatly loved to this day.
