... It had been many years, but Robenc remembered clearly his first visit to the House. What had astonished him was how high the doorways and ceilings were, particularly in the upper Hall. The dark, low-ceilinged Refectory through which he had first entered the House was what he was accustomed to — as a tall man, he normally had to stoop or at least lower his head whenever he passed from one room to another. But when he reached the top of the stairs leading to the Hall directly above, he gasped: the entry doors, easily twice his height, stood open, and beyond was a room so vast and full of light he thought for a moment he was being led back outside...
