Hollow Knight is a video game series created by the indie studio Team Cherry. It currently consists of two games; Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition, and its recent sequel Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Team Cherry is an Australian idie game development studio. The team first formed in 2013 to create an entry for the game jam Ludum Dare 27. Their entry, “Hungry Knight” wasn't very successful at first, but it along with a few other game jams inspired the team to create a full game they called Hollow Knight. Which went on to achieve massive success and critical acclaim. The studio consists of only a few members:
Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition (2017) is a metroidvania souls-like game that follows the story of an underground kingdom of bugs called Hallownest. You play as The Knight exploring this fallen kingdom, slowly learning about the mysterious infection that led to its downfall, as well as your own place in it. The game itself focuses on exploration through different unlockable movement abilities, as well as challenging boss encounters. Its art is all hand drawn and traditionally animated, giving the visuals a unique charm. This along with the dreamy soundtrack and mysterious story create a very strong atmosphere for the game that has enticed many players and critics alike.
Hollowknight: Silksong (2025) is the long awaited sequel to the first game. The two are similar in their genres and universe, but Silksong takes place in an entirely new setting with a new protagonist. Its story follows Hornet, as she is forcibly taken from her home in Hallownest to the foreign kingdom of Pharloom. She escapes her captors, but is determined to figure out who brought her there and why. The game manages to live up to the first Hollow Knight and beyond it, currently thought to be a strong contender for multiple game of the year awards.
