The project aims to celebrate the legacy of the 1993 hypermedia narrative game by John McDaid, while making it accessible and enjoyable for generations to come. Working with a team of developers, we focused on research, modernizing the user interface, and ensuring compatibility with contemporary web technologies.

Challenge

The original HyperCard game was a relic of its time, designed for outdated technologies and user experiences, making it crucial for us to strike a balance between nostalgia and modernization. The main challenge is to maintain the original essence and gameplay of the game while adapting it to current web design standards, compatibility, and accessibility.

Solution

Thorough Research and Game Analysis:
To overcome the challenges and successfully reconstruct the old HyperCard game, I worked with my team to conduct extensive research on the original game, creating wireframes to understand its mechanics, graphics, and user interactions.
Integration and Compatibility:
Since HyperCard is a discontinued technology, our team will re-implement the game using modern web technologies. I focused on reconstructing particular sections of the game, Final Cuts and Telecom using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript. By doing so, we ensured that the reconstructed game runs on modern web browsers without any compatibility issues. With the insights gained from our research, we worked to modernize the game's user interface (UI) and design, ensuring that it is visually appealing, responsive, and user-friendly while maintaining the core gameplay mechanics.
