The narrative project specified a necessity to create cohesive links between multiple elements that convey to the audience a story or desired “takeaway”. For this project, I undertook the task of creating a webpage detailing the biomes of Unknown Worlds’ game, Subnautica. This game progresses in different stages – or biomes – that lend themselves to the narrative of the game. For each biome, I have included a brief overview of the location and any pertinent aggressive fauna from that biome. The key to this website’s functionality is the inclusion of a parallax scrolling effect and hover effects. The parallax scrolling provides seamless transitions between each biome’s section, while also providing a banner-like effect for each section. The hover effects are utilized for the fauna information. As the user scrolls, the text will become visible and clarify what they are looking at. The text is also presented in a different color to provide continuity between the graphics and the descriptions – this choice makes the text appear to be an extension of the graphic. These two techniques are new concepts that were utilized for this project specifically.
