In the 1900s Olalla Washington was home to woman the town would later a doctor gone mad with murder. Dr. Linda Burfield Hazzard was a doctor who believed all illness could be cured through fasting. Dr. Hazzard promised "perfect health" for those who withstood her rigorous enemas, brutal massages and non-food treatment at her three-story "Wilderness Sanitarium." However, many never left the doctors care as the cures she offered wound up killing her patients instead of curing them. The sanitarium has been converted into a home and is owned by Opal and Chuck Abundis.
Claims of Paranormal Happenings:
Strange women have approached the couple and told them that the strange symbols carved into the fireplace are satanic seals that symbolize the “seventh gate of hell.”
People who know nothing about the haunted affiliations of the place feel strange around the fireplace.
Footsteps can be heard moving up the stairs and roaming the top floor, even when only the two occupants are home.
Chuck Abundis recounts: “One time I was in the bathroom, and there is no draft down there and it was a warm day, and I got the coldest feeling. It felt like they touched me on the back of my right arm and it was cold. A week ago, I was wiping off the counter by the toaster and the electrical cord came out by itself and dropped onto the floor.”
There is a small hole in the basement where it is theorized that the doctor kept unruly patients as crying can be heard from there.
