It is not unusual for me to order my friends to take great pictures of me. If at all the photos come back and I am not thrilled with it, I order them to take another one until I am satisfied with the results. Often times than not, I blame the photographer if I am unsatisfied with the images. Sometimes I blame the camera or the lightening or the settings. I believe photography is art especially if the photographer has a great eye for it. However, in the reading, we learnt that throughout the years, there has been the debate of ‘if Photography is art or not?’ According to the reading, Baudelaire’s 1859 rebuke denotes that the presumed objectivity of a photograph was not yet recognized as a universal value. Baudelaire questioned the classification of photography as a form of art but also distrusted the claim that it worked as a seamless illustration of reality.

He mocked French aristocrats who believed that true art was an exact replication of nature.

In recent years, we see how AI is quickly gaining the reigns in the art and digital world, raising eyebrows of critics and evoking questions in its wake. Just like photography, AI involves a lot of human input to be able to achieve a favorable and mind-blowing result. The person behind it prompts it using the right descriptive words that would make the AI create something.

In recent years, AI has stirred a lot of debates about ethical issues and how it is robbing artists especially struggling and new artists their well-earned income, and this is not the way things were meant to be. Ethics should be in the forefront of this discussion as it will help create a level playing field for artists whose works are stolen by AI and never receive an acknowledgement or payment.

I concur with the reading that art is much more than what we see digitally on the internet and that the internet is a great tool for artists to get their work out there so as to earn a living. However, we have to accept the fact that AI-generated images are here to stay and so is human art too. Human art can also only flourish when laws are in place to protect artist rights and AI becomes controlled by ethics and laws. Until AI can take my photo like a human, I will continue to solicit a human to be behind the camera to take those captivating photos of me.

After going through the readings, I noticed Mark Amerika understands that ChatGPT is a tool that can assist anyone regain their creativity. He knows that GPT is effective at figuring out the semantic dialogue between it and Amerika. Sometimes, the results he receives from GPT intrigues and gets him smiling.

Amerika explains how he used the results he got from GPT and kept remixing them until he finally got what he wanted. “The goal was to ‘lose consciousness’, he stated. He explained that it was some kind of a human-nonhuman mind meld between the AI and him. “Being alive means making art and now is when the fun really begins,” Amerika said.

Amerika went on to explain that he goes on to change his results from how creative he wants it to be or random or the length of the output. However, he points out the fact that the longer the output and the number of outputs he receives depends on the amount of workload he asks the GPT to do. In essence, this means that the workload plays a huge part in the wait time and the results one gets from the GPT.

Amerika, stated that the GPT yields great results sometimes and other times, it will only bring a great result after several redirection, prompts, sampling and remixing. He added that working with AI awakens his creativity. Amerika points out the fact that it is hard to decipher if a paper, article and the like is part written by AI or humans these days, however, he explains that we can multiply our intelligence by working with AI tools because they can enhance our creativity.

My response to Amerika’s kind of creativity is that AI is a wonderful tool to have and that it can help jog our memory and awaken our creativity. With AI, the possibilities are limitless but we also have to put into consideration the ethical rules we have to follow when the work we created with GPT is for public consumption. This calls for the need to remix and keep prompting the results till the work is all ours.

 A personal Journey into AI, film and writing

 Abstract: In this paper, I will delve into the unification and association of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the realms of creative writing and film. My focus is to uncover how AI can be just more than a tool but a collaborator in my creative process. My journey with AI will intentionally discover the many possibilities of AI and finding a balance through it all by not allowing AI to do majority of the thinking for me. Throughout this journey, AI will be my ally as I discover the many ways, I can use it responsibly but keeping in mind that it does not come without its faults. My research in this class will emphasize how humans interact with AI and how they obtain the desired results they seek, how we engage with professionals who are AI experts and how we can all experiment with it safely and responsibly.

Personal Background: My unique curiosity for Art, creative writing, film started decades ago when I used to write and create art for fun. This curiosity led me to this exceptional venture with AI. As the times are changing, we must change and adapt with it. Similar to how social media reshaped our personal connections, with the world and our dealings, I believe AI has the power to transform creative storytelling in film, creative writing, and coding. This research is a natural sequence of my quest to understand how technology can coexist and harmonize with and enhance human artistic expression without replacing it.

The Objectives of my research paper will be mainly focusing on these five points below.

Exploring AI in Creativity: I will explore and Investigate AI’s role in producing narratives and visual storytelling.

Ethical Reflections: This research paper will help me Imagine and anticipate the implication of AI in creativity, paying attention to originality and authorship.

Impact on Creative process: This paper will assist me in understanding how AI interferes with the Artists creativity and creative processes.

Developing AI Frameworks: It will help me create AI tools that would enhance human creativity rather than replace it.

Enjoyable: Most importantly, it will support my findings on how humans enjoy and revel in the results of their creativity and the endless possibilities they can discover with AI.

The significance:

The significance of my research will illuminate the role of AI in creative industries and highlight the fact that AI is interlinked in almost everything we do.

Embarking on this research is an exciting and new thing, much like when I first chanced upon social media and had a feeling that the possibilities with it was going to be limitless.

We should fully well know that there could be some ethical boundaries that are bound to be crossed with AI and it is our role as humans to identify them. If we do that, we erase the chance of AI fully doing the thinking for us and controlling the narrative. When we assume this role, AI becomes a tool in our creativity and not a master who dictates its servants.

In the reading ‘Omega Team Scenario,’ I noticed that there seemed to be a disconnect from Prometheus and the public. All I saw was the need to create and conquer a society. It is almost scary, reading about the dystopian futures of the Omega Team’s creation and intention. It seemed like AI is getting more intelligent and having humanlike qualities, this makes humans more dependable on it. AI has the ability to manipulate algorithms which can in turn sway public opinion and views on a matter. AI can cause loss of jobs and a feeling of ‘being watched’ by the state.

In the reading, we learnt that Prometheus could obtain all the web’s data on people’s preferences, it would know exactly what each category of gamer liked and could develop a superhuman ability to optimize a game for sales revenue.

It seemed like AI is very much in competition thus, making services much more affordable, cheap, and fast. This can be part of the Utopian futures of AI including a lot more like creativity enhancement, contributing towards medical research, improvement of healthcare and sciences just to name a few.

Although AI can have its advantages and disadvantages, we must ensure that it has rules and regulations and ethics to work around it. These ethics can guide the way we can safely use AI without harming humanity. It is a good thing that lawmakers are looking into creating laws to protect humanity from the dangers in AI. Just this evening I saw in the news that guidelines and laws are being created when it comes to AI especially deepfake so humanity can safely enjoy the advantages of AI while minimizing the dangers AI presents.
