This project deals with the rampant and misleading news out in our world. I created it to be a farce on today’s news and how serious they take themselves. It was difficult for me to come up with an idea in the beginning, but after collaborating with my wife, and lots of laughs later, we both came up with a silly version of the news. Initially, it was going to play out as a newscaster asking the intern how the day is. The newscaster was going to be in the middle of a warzone being attacked by giant robots and getting screamed at by hippies who are yelling about the end times. This proved to be too long for the project. At thirty seconds, the PSA had to be short and sweet. I thought long and hard on how I could incorporate every aspect of ridiculousness into thirty seconds. How could I include a stoic news anchor, a silly airhead intern, lasers, UFOs, aliens, airplanes, and a tractor beam into thirty seconds? That, ladies and gentlemen, was very difficult to say the least. In the end, I was able to create a short PSA that not only was silly, but fun to watch. It ended up poking fun at every news outlet and fake news report from all sides of the news spectrum. It played on to the stereotypes of the news anchors right down to their silly music themes and “hooks” at the end of their news show. Overall, I was pleased with the project.
