Thank you for choosing to play ''anoldday: Нещасний випадок''
Artem was the personification of what every young boy living in rural Ukraine has to represent. A naive yet cunning lad that was neither the oldest nor the youngest of his siblings. At this moment in time he had gone off to explore in the woods near his parent's property.
Whether he sneaked away from his chores or was taking a well deserved break is completely up to you to imagine. It was the 1800s and his family was of little affluence, meaning the only toy he had was not a toy at all but rather a standard wood axe from home.
[[START->START]]Surrounded by Scots pine and other pine trees, he began to look up and all around in order to take in what he saw as the closest thing in existence to mythical giants. As he gazed in awe he started to wonder how high he could throw his axe.
[[Throw the axe above his head towards the clouds->1]]
[[Throw the axe horizontally into the tree in front of him->2]]
[[Throw the axe vertically into the tree in front of him->3]]
The axe flies high in the air above his head and then starts to gradually lose momentum as it returns to where it came. Out of pure shock of how high it was able to go, Artem stands completely still. A bad decision to make.
[[End]]
The axe hits the tree and stays there.
[[Continue->4]]The axe lands in the tree but refuses to stay. In only a matter of seconds it falls out and hits Artem. In that moment of pure pain and shock time seems to be a non-existent element. Reality seams to be only an imitation of itself as he is knocked back.
This sensation is only momentary as he regains a mild amount of composure.
[[Begin to process the sitauiton at hand->The Discovery]] [[Make a different decision->START]]
[[Return to start->intro]]In these trying times everything is worth something. A simple axe might not seem like much but it is a valuable tool, from the peasant to the king.
Artem decides it is best for everone if he retrieves that axe to keep his family from being one axe poorer.
[[Think of a plan->5]]He is obviously not tall enough to reach up and grab it and is far too young to competently use a firearm to get it down (those were a thing back then right? History is not my job. Telling a story is.)
[[Grad a ladder from home->ladder]]
[[Jimmyrig a downed tree->downed-tree]]Good lord would that look suspiscous.
Can you imagine going into your parents shed to grab a ladder in the middle of the day and being confronted only to say that it is your only means of retrieving a displaced multiple purpose tool? I can't.
Either way Artem will have to be quick, good thing he has a decent amount of energy for someone his age he can expel to get home fast. The ladder however is far too heavy to bring back to the woods with him.
He will have to settle for a smaller ladder than expected. It really is not that much taller than he is.
[[Get Back to The Tree]]The search is far and wide for the perfect tree to use as a makeshift ladder.
He eventually finds a tree with just enough branches still attached for climbing. The decision is made to start dragging it over and prop it up against the cultivated axe-tree.
Begin the climb.
This action requires an incredible amount of balance from anyone's mind and body. He makes it to the top and begins gripping the axe as to help to center his endangering motion. The only problem is that it is really stuck in there.
[[Give it a good tug->tug]]
[[Put all his weight onto it->weight]]The tree he is standing on starts to spin and pick up momentum as he is jostled back. In an instant Artem is lying face down in the dirt with an overwhelming sense of pain coming from his foot.
As he twists his head over his left shoulder he makes a horrifing discovery.
[[The Discovery]]Artem is really thinking with the monkey side of his brain at the moment.
As you would expect the axe does come free but at a price.
The tree he was standing on was so weak that the sudden escalation in pressure makes it crack in half. Artem is knocked unconscious from the fall.
[[5-mins later]]The first thing Artem sees when he wakes up is that the axe is resting sharp end first in his shoe. This on top of the fact that his foot feels funny causes him to scream and imagine the worst possible scenario.
Finally once he gets his wits straight he realizes that the axe is implanted only in the heel of his shoe and that the odd sensation is from his foot falling asleep. If the axe had been one militmeter off things could be ''much worse''.
Artem gets up, dusts himself off and counts his lucky stars before heading home.
[[Start to Head Home]]By the time Artem arrives home for lunch it has been long enough to where his mother neither questions why he has an axe in his left hand or why he is covered in dirt.
What a day it has been.
The End
Made from scratch by Zane Jager
[[Return to start->intro]]His foot is clearly separated with a large canyon of a groove between his toes and ankle.
It is a bloody mess with a badly damaged shoe just barely keeping it all together.
To be clear the front part of his foot is not completely detached although it might as well be.
[[Examine The Catastrophe Some More]]“For me, trees have always been the most penetrating preachers. I revere them when they live in tribes and families, in forests and groves. And even more I revere them when they stand alone. They are like lonely persons."
-Hermann Hesse, Poet
[[Introduction->intro]]
As Artem begins his journey home he hears a distinct growl. Whatever this growl may be is anyone's mystery but to Artem it might as well be an invitation to explore.
[[Scour]]
Oh boy. There it is. A genuine brown bear. It appears of medium size with larger than life claws for hunting and defending. To someone living in a poor sheltered area with no library, encountering a brown bear for the first time might as well be like meeting a small dragon for the first time.
All alone. Far from home. What a feeling to behold.
Having to deal with the fruits of your tree climbing misfortune is one thing but a completely alien threat with primitive instincts is a completely different danger scenario.
[[Slowly Walk Backwards]]
[[Run away]]The bear gestures with its face towards the downed tree next to Artem. Artem looks to see what this eerily human-like gesture is aimed at.
With a face full of dirt from the fall and not having the best eyesight in general Artem wipes his face to get a [[better look]]To Artem's surprise there is a hexagonal patterned paste on the underside of the tree's base. It must be an old beehive.
Wait a minute. If there is one factoid about bears that has been passed down from generation to generation it is that a bear and a cache of honey (no matter how old) is a match that transcends time.
A bear has no desire for small emaciated human jelly but rather sweet nutrititious golden nectar of nature's finest utilitarian workers.
[[Slowly Back Away Some More While The Bear is Mesmerized With Wholesome Lust]]
The sounds. Oh the sounds can be heard for miles of the desperate desire to feed on the metaphorical pot of gold.
The axe Artem is still holding onto is at this point becoming more of a trophy than anything else.
The house is in sight at this point. Not much left to do but return the axe to the shed and eat not too differently from the way the bear was just eating.
[[Head Home]]
Now that Artem is back it is time to get to work. He props the ladder at an angle to where it will be as tall as it can be but also also not fall when weight is placed upon it.
Here goes nothing
[[Take Some Steps Up It]]Artem reaches the top step and is now faced with a quandary regarding height. How will he get the axe that is stuck a foot and a half or should I say 0.4572000 meters above his head to keep in theme with this story?
[[Jump and Grab It]]By some miracle Artem has achieved contact! As he dangles in the breeze grasping for dear life his hands start to slip since he is suspended off the ladder like a cat in a tree.
No choice but to heave and ho and pray for a safe landing.
[[Heave and Ho]]In an instant Artem is lying face down in the dirt with an overwhelming sense of pain coming from his foot.
As he twists his head over his left shoulder he makes a horrifing discovery.
[[The Discovery]]Artem is going to have to make it home somehow in this condition. As he tries to stand up he is met with a complete lack of traction, to put it lightly.
[[Start To Think]]Lucky the leaves lying on the ground all around are long. Perfect for a tourniquet. Artem is clever, fit and adventurous. What more could you ask for?
Everything seems relatively stable now. How will he get home?
[[From Where He Came]]
[[A Different Less Rocky Route]]It has been 20 years now. Artem is now the owner of his town's most famous shoe shop. Over the years he realized that only he could make a proper shoe to accommodate his injury so he got to work.
A true example of life giving you lemons and you make lemonade.
The End

P.S. Maybe a ladder is not the way to go?
[[Return to start->intro]]The ground is a lot more of a nuisance when you are not in average physical condition. A slight gust of wind knocks Artem to the ground.
His bandage does not hold and he begins to bleed out.
[[Return to start->intro]]Struggling to retain composure, Artem hobbles the steps into his home. His parents notice and immediately call for his older brother who knows what the best way to keep from getting gangrene is.
After a while the pain stops and now Artem only has one thing to be happy about. That he made it home at least in one piece.
[[Epilogue]]I don't know what he is thinking. He surprisingly is able to get pretty far away before the brown bear can porcess what is going on.
Unfortunately he is so focused on looking back that he falls in a river. A rather strong river in fact.
[[Swim away from the current]]
[[see where it takes him]]The river may be strong but it is not that deep. Artem is able to get back to land by rolling with full force diagonally.
Only problem is that he has a poor sense of direction and ends up right back where he started in front of the brown bear.
[[Slowly Walk Backwards]]
[[Run away]]The river is longer than expected. Eventually it leads him to a small waterfall that acts as the end of the line.
Oh boy, this place looks different. The trees are a lot thicker and scarier here. Will he ever make it back home? I honestly don't know.
