Welcome to iSci: Interactive Technologies for Science Immersion



iSci aims to produce an interactive immersive environment for teaching scientific concepts to young learners, from middle school through college. Harnassing commercially available interactive technologies involving physical computing, augmented reality, and haptic systems, researchers at Washington State University Vancouver bring to life lessons in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).

Led by Drs. Alexander Dimitrov (Mathematics) and Dene Grigar (Creative Media & Digital Culture), iSci taps into powerful experiential learning opportunities made possible by a Kinect Sensor, Wii Remote, Falcon Game Controller, and augmented reality software read from an iPad to provide students the ability to interact directly with 2 and 3D objects, sense and perturb them, and naturally develop the basic intuition needed to comprehend concepts that students have previously been unable to experience.
