unfortunate WASTE

In today's culture of mass consumption, the things we throw away often vanish from our minds, but all that trash has to go somewhere.

All the trash we mindlessly throw out lands in landfills, incinerators, oceans and even into our bodies.
We must become more mindful of our waste habits and generate less waste.
Or else, Our World will drastically change for the worse.

ARTIST STATEMENT For this site, I want to cover the social topic of excess waste. Living in a consumer-centered nation, we are stuck in a horrendous and habitual cycle of buy-use-throw out. And we do this in a completely absent-minded way, without giving much thought to the consequences of our actions.

Emphasis on: Learning to purchase only what you NEED and sparingly what you WANT. Buying high-quality, premium objects that you will take care of and value vs. objects that you will use only a couple of times and then throw out.

I will use the following two media objects embedded on the pages of my website. Remixed Video: using a variety of applicable videos from a variety of sources to demonstrate the mass amount of waste that is generated specifically in the US. The timeline will be fast in some places with a sequence of footage followed by slower, more slow, sad moods. The overall mood I want to set is one of action and after displaying the problem, I want to conclude with suggestions that give people some way to take action. Completed in Adobe Premiere.

Infographic: Mostly visual to display data in an appalling, startling way. Data will be mostly designed in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop and finalized in Illustrator.

Resources will also be included in the website to direct people to other sites or other resources where to they can go to continue learning about this issue.
