Our project is a scroll-driven web experience that uses motion, interactivity, and digital storytelling to highlight the environmental consequences of human activity. As Digital Technology & Culture majors specializing in Web Design and Development, we wanted to create a piece that merges technical skill with purposeful communication.
The website unfolds as a single narrative, guided by horizontal transitions triggered by the user's scroll. Each transition leads into a new "phase," focusing on a major environmental issue: deforestation in rapidly disappearing rainforests, the decline of ocean health due to overfishing, and the growing strain on landfills caused by overconsumption. Together, these sections offer a concise but impactful look at human-driven ecological change.
Each phase features interactive facts, calls to action, and links to organizations encouraging viewers to learn more or get involved. Visually, the site uses hand drawn vector illustrations created in Adobe Illustrator, paired with responsive hover and tap interactions for both desktop and mobile. A simple navigation system helps users move through the phases or access more information on the project.
Our goal is to build an experience that is both accessible and memorable, showcasing our abilities in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript while reminding users of the urgent need to protect our planet. This project reflects our commitment to design with intention and to using digital media as a tool for awareness.
