A Jouney into Music Videos

Live Performance Type Music Videos

Live performance styled music videos feel like the default for a music video. It features either the singer or the entire band, either at a set or location, and it's a carefully choreographed and stylized production of a live performance rather than a true live performance.

This differs itself from the type of music video more akin to a theater style where the singer/band is performing a story and also singing the lyrics at the same time. It can have dance in it but it doesn't function as a ballet styled video as the dance is not to highlight the song but merely be an accompanyment to it.

One extremely good exampe of a live perfomance music video is Stromae's "Ave Cesaria" which acts as a home video of a party with a live band, Stromae being the main singer for this band. By featuring the band as a part of the scene (rather than as ghosts or invisible as the rest of the story acts as if they are not there), this becomes a live performance with a subtle story told through the visuals and the music.
