Large breasts, giant buff warrior men, scantily clad women; all of these are basic attributes of an average video game. Plain and simple sexism is found in the gaming industry. You can’t hide it or ignore it or even pretend it isn’t there. Sexism is part of what video games are. The question we advance to spark among you all is not if video games display sexism, but if this sexism is bad or not. Do the sexist attitudes of the gaming world display a negative connotation, or are they simply attributes of what video games are?
If you look at our huge society today, it is a no brainer that video games have become a central part of American culture. From the Xbox 360 to the PC everybody probably has played a game in their life let alone be exposed to it in any way. Video games have hit the mainstream market and their contents have and will continue to be seen by millions. This is why our group believes that the issues that come along with the gaming industry must be seen and known by everybody.
Our site is not here to tell you if sexism in video games is good or bad, but to present you with sources, links and peer reviewed journals on this topic.
