William Shakespeare Caricature

Sonnet Project

The Sonnet Project was designed to transcribe the sonnets of William Shakespeare into an internet-based medium. This was the first major project I worked on that involved any styling of web content.

I approached this project with the goal of a minimalistic aesthetic, as I wanted the sonnets to be the featured part of the project. I used a light pastel pink as the background to serve as a welcoming to visitors. I used an image reminiscent of an index card for each sonnet's background and was able to make it appear the lines of the sonnets were printed on the lines of the cards. This created a clean presentation that allowed each sonnet to be clearly differentiated. An About section was included so visitors are able to learn more about the author.

Recipe Project

The Recipe Project had me designing a website that presented all aspects of a recipe.

I chose Pad Thai as it's something I enjoy. All Recipes had a well-reviewed recipe that I wanted to share with others. I used an image of the completed dish as a hero image for the site. I extracted colors from that same image to use in the site. I leveraged Grid to present portions of the site, such as directions and nutritional information. The is responsively designed, so it can be enjoyed on a variety of device sizes.

Narrative Project

The Narrative Project had me presenting a story of my choosing. We were tasked with using either a scrolling effect to tell the story or a multi-page design.

I decided that I would tell an original story, best described as a post-modern fairy tale. This allowed me to exercise my creativity. I used a combination of scrolling effect and multiple pages. The main story was presented on a single page a reader is able to scroll through and there are optional background pages that can be explored, if the reader desires to know more about the characters. Original imagery is included as lead-ins to each chapter; the imagery was created using Microsoft's Image Creator. This imagery allowed me to represent my unique characters and better immerse the reader. I included audio queues that would play at certain scroll points. Each audio queue relates to the chapter it's in and provides further immersion.
