This project was created for an assignment that required building a multi-page website with a narrative. "Choose Your Own Adventure" stories were an idea that got mentioned in class, and I wanted to do a spin on that. My goal was to gamify the idea of traversing branching pathways in a story, translating it into a literal maze. On each page, you're presented with a branching section of the maze, and you use the written clues to find the correct path. I felt a medieval/fantasy theme was also quite fitting, hence the name "Dungeon Escape".
The biggest challenge in creating this website was setting up the navigation. I had to learn how to create a proper navigation bar and make sure that my numerous pages were linked correctly. One issue with having a lot of pages is that you need to make sure everything carries over. For instance, if you change the fonts in your navigation bar for one page, you'll then have to repeat it for the others. I quickly realized it was more efficient to pin down the design of an initial page, which you can then copy to the others upon creating them. This is a lesson I will carry into future projects.
I created all of the maze graphics myself using Adobe Illustrator. The background image was found on Google Images. The story was written by me, but expanded on using ChatGPT.
