Volunteers at Clark County parks provided over 16,000 hours in 2018 to care for and improve parks, trails, road sides, and other public places. Removal of invasive plants and building and maintaining trails by improving drainage, spreading gravel, and planting trees and native plants are just a few of the activities that are supported by volunteers ranging in age from 10 to 80. Trail improvements provide healthy recreational opportunities to residents and visitors alike. Ongoing maintenance minimizes environmental impacts and erosion that may occur due to trail use and the impacts of rain that helps to keep the Pacific Northwest the lush, green environment we all love.
This grant provides funds to purchase tools for volunteer use including rakes, clippers, knee pads, and shovels. This grant also covers the rental costs of an electric powered wagon with a dump bucket to move rock to various trail locations and disposal fees for invasive vegetation removal. Tools are used by volunteers at many trails and parks throughout Clark County with a primary focus on work at Whipple Creek, Lacamas Park, Tenny Creek Neighborhood Park and Moulton Falls Park.
