Turn-Around Campaign
Westby Associates came in after the capital campaign had launched; the campaign had underachieved in securing both private and public funding. We recruited a steering committee of high level community leaders and were able to successfully raise the level of commitments of those already participating in the campaign, including public sources. The cost of campaign went up 30% due to public funding requirements and new needs for the organization.
The formula: creative financing and community leadership and staff recruitment. Part of the funding came from a brokered property transaction that saw CDM (also a Westby client) purchase a portion of the property for its own capital campaign. In addition to the capital campaign, WAI helped with board development and recruitment of development director.
The result: Fundraising completed in 30 months; total campaign dollars raised $5.7 million. In February 2013 Share Fromhold Service Center officially opened as the new home of Share ASPIRE staff offices, Share Outreach Program, Share Volunteer Center, Share Administrative Offices, and warehouse for Share’s Backpack & Holiday Cheer Programs, plus storage space for donations.
Diane McWithey, Executive Director
“It is with tremendous respect that I write this reference for Mike Westby and Westby & Associates. Mike is a joy to work with and his strong commitment, reliability, creative outlook and professional skill set definitely brought results in our capital campaign. Over the four years that we worked together Mike became not only a tremendous resource but a great friend. He is a man of honor, strong work ethic and high moral values, I highly recommend him to all of my nonprofit partners in our community.”
